6 Basic Video Optimization Tips

Ran across this cool post on Basic Video Optimization by Michelle Bowles over at TopRankBlog.com. This is one smart lady! Michelle shows you how to get the most from your “Digital Assets”. She offers 5 cool SEO Tips, and I added one for you, enjoy!video_01b

1. Optimize with keywords.
Just like any type of text-based content, video SEO involves optimizing with target relevant keywords — both for search engines and for user experience. Use keywords in:

  • File name
  • Title
  • Tags
  • URL
  • Link text

Beyond that, include a paragraph of optimized text that provides a brief description of the video. Again, the benefits are twofold: You’ll improve the user experience and your search rankings.

2. Distribute videos on video-sharing sites.
In addition to posting videos on your own site, video-sharing sites are effective tools for gaining visibility and additional links. Remember these few points to maximize results:

  • Don’t forget that videos hosted on YouTube and other video-sharing sites should be optimized for keywords
  • YouTube channel pages — and those of other video-sharing sites — should be optimized, as well
  • Use a video distribution service like TubeMogul to deploy your videos to the top sharing sites

3. Implement a linking strategy.
Video is judged by the same linking standards as all other forms of digital content. So building both internal and external links is crucial for video SEO. Ideas for a linking strategy include:

  • Cross-linking to other videos
  • Linking to videos from relevant web pages
  • Linking to videos in blog posts
  • Tweeting the video
  • Linking to videos from social media pages
  • Bookmarking the video

4. Encourage viewers to share your videos.
First thing is first — if you want users to share your videos, you must create content worth sharing. If your video isn’t interesting, relevant, entertaining or informative, users aren’t likely to share it, let alone view it. From there:

  • Allow and encourage users to comment on the video
  • Make it easy for users to share your video on You Tube, Twitter, Facebook and MySpace
  • Offer video content in multiple formats so users can choose the one that best suited to their platform and connectivity speed

5. Re-purpose your videos.
As with text content, the more optimized video, the better. Get creative in order to re-purpose videos across the web:

  • Embed videos in blog posts
  • Break up long videos and create multiple shorter ones
  • Use transcriptions of videos to create blog posts or content for web pages
  • Take screen shots from videos and post them to Flickr and other image-sharing sites
  • Turn offline content, such as training videos or videos of a conference keynote speech, into optimized digital assets for your website.

6. Auto-Start Videos

Another cool tip is to Auto-Start your videos. This can easily be accomplished in YouTube by adding a piece of code behind the video URL string in the Embed Code. The code is: autoplay=1

Example:

The URL: http://www.youtube.com/v/Jx7iwQBVm18&hl=en&fs=1&

You Add: URL is: http://www.youtube.com/v/Jx7iwQBVm18&hl=en&fs=1&autoplay=1

When you Auto-Start videos it creates more plays in YouTube which will increase your ratings.

Make Money With Twitter

I ran across this cool site which allows you to “Monetize” your twitter posts. I haven’t fully figured it out yet, but it looks interesting >> www.be-a-magpie.com

You Can Make Money With Twitter Using Magpie

The pitch is:

Magpie, the original Twitter advertising network, assists brands to harness the power of conversation.

Our platform enables advertisers to create relevant, controlled and individualized sponsored conversations in a mutually beneficial partnership between advertisers and twitterers.

Google Dominates Search Market

Google continues to Dominate with over 75% of the Search Market according to a study by search agency iCrossing:  The data show US search market share percentages and distribution quite different than the major traffic metrics firms.

The company says its numbers are “based on a large representative sample of Fortune 1000 companies, across all major verticals,” which use its search tracking tools.

Accordingly the iCrossing data show US September natural search market share to be the following:

  • Google 76.7 percent
  • Bing (increasingly slightly from Aug to) 8.2 percent
  • Yahoo (decreasing to) 11.1 percent
  • AOL and Ask show “precipitous declines”

iCrossing defines it rating criterion:  “it represents actual traffic received from engines, as picked up by our own analytics tracking across enterprise level sites, as opposed to all traffic on the Web.”

Now Compare comScore data for September:

Then Compare Hitwise:

It appears the Bing numbers are relatively close in the data above but iCrossing shows Yahoo has a significantly smaller share than either comScore or Hitwise. And while those services both seem to show a stable core of usage for Ask and AOL search, iCrossing reflects losses for those engines.

Below are some visual representations of the iCrossing numbers:

So where does Acesse.com fall into this – look at the Other category. Acesse does not even rank yet, but give us time. By next year we should be able to show up on the radar.

Sergey Brin Google Interview

Sergey Brin showed up at the recent Web 2.0 Summit and recorder this 18 minute video interview with John Battelle,  available on YouTube and at www.steverenner.com

Sergey Brin Video Interview with John Battelle

Talks about Google / Twitter Deal – says he’s “Excited to see an entrepreneur go out and be successful, as with Biz Stone, 1st  on Blogger and now even more with Twitter.”

Google has an “Alumni Community” which makes it easy to form deals and partnerships.

Denys Google tried to buy Twitter.

Economy of attention. It’s not all in the search box. Starting out Google was working on CPM low end of the monitazition, and spent years developing adwords. It’s hard to predict where the future value / successes may lie.

The internet as an advertising medium is very efficient / compared to traditional media.Ad rates on the Internet are going to go up.

Google is entering Mobile, Advertising, Social, Book Search, and can they compete effectively.

Gooogler creates Products / Services out of need example: Gmail, Android. Is there potential Google Mobile hardware in the future? Possible, but Google does work closely with the manufacturers.“G1, we worked very closely with HTC on the design.” He added, “you can’t create software completely divorced from how the hardware is designed.”

On Bing, do you use Bing, “Yes I use all thge search engines out there”.

Bing reminds us that Search is a competetive market, there is a lot of cool stuf, that has carried over from MSM LIve.

It too bad that Yahoo wants to get out of search, “I do think Yahoo had a number of interesting innovations there and I wish they would continue to innovate in search.”

“The world is evolving, and people consume information in different ways.”

Uses Chrome for Mac. Pre Beta stage, but is usable now.

Digitizing the worlds books, he is surprised at all the controversy over this, “I’m optimistic that we will be successful and that we can provide access to 10′s of millions of books”.

Top 10 Tips For Video SEO

Using Video is a great way to Optimize your web site. Search Engines love Video and tend to index them quickly. Here are some great tips on how to effectively get the most from using Video on your site from Rick Hardman at www.seo.com

video_icon_fullDo you know how to do SEO for your videos? Do you have a video or two on your site but are unsure how to do search engine optimization for them?

You are not alone. For a long time it was difficult to say what would help a video rank well in search engines such as Google, but it has become a lot easier than it used to be.

Here are the top 10 SEO tips for videos:

1- If you plan to upload a video to both your site and video distribution sites like YouTube, be sure to post it to your site first. That way you can get links through the embed codes where possible.

2- Make sure that your site has more content than you give the video distribution sites. For example, your site could include a “part 2” to the video or a textual transcription that can’t be had anywhere else. This can entice people to link to your site rather than the video distribution site.

3- Use your targeted keywords in the video’s file name, title, and in the tags where it is appropriate.

4- Build links to the video both internally and externally. Video, like any other content on the Web, will be judged by the same link standards.

5- Create a video sitemap for any videos on your site to make it easier for search engines to find all the video content.

6- Optimize the URL of the page where the video is located by naming the page with the keywords. Only have one video per URL.

7- Tweeting, bookmarking, and mentioning the video on social media sites are great ways to gather links.

8- Cross link your video to other relevant videos that you have done. This will help all of your videos rank better and be more useful for your visitor, which always leads to more views.

9- Create useful content that your visitors will want to link to. This will help to build natural links and encourage comments which also influence search engine rankings.

10- Use a video distribution service such as TubeMogul or Traffic Geyser to spread the video quickly across the Internet. These services can save you a lot of time.

These tips are primarily SEO related. There are a lot of topics about video that need to be discussed to get the most out of a multimedia campaign, but we shall talk about them in another post. Watch for them to come in the future. In the meantime, start recording!

Bonus tip: YouTube will soon let you connect with your friends easier. They are going to suggest people you know by recommending those you have sent videos to via email. Also, if you have connected your Gmail account with your YouTube account, they will suggest people from your contacts that also have a YouTube account.

The idea is to promote subscriptions between friends. One of the key factors in making all of this work is to be sure that your account settings are correct. If you’re not sure, simply go to the privacy settings within your YouTube account. There is a box there that states, “Let others find my channel on YouTube if they have my email address.” Make sure that the box is checked so you can be found and maybe even increase your subscriptions.

Adding Video to your web site can improve your rankings in the search engines. Video Marketing is Hot and if you are not using Video on your site yet you should give it a try!

Droid Is Serious Threat To iPhone

Verizon unveils it latest phone the “Droid”. Droid is made by Motorola and uses the Google Android 2.0.Droid is said to be powered by the TI OMAP3430, the same core as the iPhone.

Verizon and Google have formed a strategic partnership that will “leverage the Verizon Wireless network and the best of the Google Android open platform to deliver leading-edge mobile applications, services and devices.”

Specs include: include a powerful OMAP3430 processor, 5 megapixel camera, slideout QWERTY keyboard and touch screen, all housed in a super-compact package and running Android 2.0. The Droid will come pre-loaded with innovative applications from not only Verizon, but also 3rd-party developers.

This should be great, as you may know my personal beef with ATT Service, (It Sucks). I for one will be anxious to test out the new Droid!

Local Business Directory Bails Out

A while back we reported on a Local Business Directory promoted by some Corporate Traders masquerading as Internet Guys. In my report Local AdLink In Trouble I outlined the problems they were having.

Well it didn’t take long for them to completely fold their tents and run, leaving their sales reps holding the proverbial bag. With out a word from their illustrious leader McNulty, the company has been sold out to a Nutritional Company – Zurvita.

zurvita

Without fanfare, the new company, Zurvita announced they were taking over on October 15,th. Former owner and CEO McNulty and his crew have a history of successfully developing web properties and selling them for big bucks. This appears to have been their concept all along.

The new owners Mark Jarvis of Zurvita plan to take the Localadlink reps on a mission “That honors and glorifies God”.  Business owners who advertise there may also receive an added benefit from the Religious aspects.

Jarvis promises that “During the time that we transition from the old systems to the new technology platform, sales reps compensation will remain the same, with one major exception…” You will actually get paid, and your checks will Not Bounce! This is good news for all the sales reps that have been basically been shafted by McNulty and company.

Another exciting day in the Internet MarketingOnline Advertising world!
