Tablets To Eclipse PCs

Tablets To Eclipse PCs – International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker, has reported that tablet shipments are expected to grow 58.7% year-over-year in 2013 reaching 229.3 million units, up from 144.5 million units last year. IDC now projects that tablet shipments will exceed those of portable PCs this year. The PC market is expected to see negative growth for the second consecutive year. IDC expects tablet shipments will outpace the entire PC market (laptops and desktops combined) by 2015.

Ryan Reith, Program Manager for IDC’s Mobility Trackers is quoted as saying ”What started as a sign of tough economic times has quickly shifted to a change in the global computing paradigm with mobile being the primary benefactor. Tablets surpassing portables in 2013, and total PCs in 2015, marks a significant change in consumer attitudes about compute devices and the applications and ecosystems that power them. IDC continues to believe that PCs will have an important role in this new era of computing, especially among business users. But for many consumers, a tablet is a simple and elegant solution for core use cases that were previously addressed by the PC.”

The IDC report goes on to say; While Apple has been at the forefront of the tablet revolution, the current market expansion has been increasingly fueled by low-cost Android devices.

Jitesh Ubrani, IDC Research Analyst stated; ”Apple’s success in the education market has proven that tablets can be used as more than just a content consumption or gaming device. These devices are learning companions, and as tablet prices continue to drop, the dream of having a PC for every child gets replaced with the reality that we can actually provide a tablet for every child.”

Another major shift in the tablet market is in screen sizes. The first generation iPad, with a 9.7-inch display, was the sweet spot for tablets. Then the 7-inch Android-based tablets began to gain traction in the market. Apple then introduced the iPad mini in the fourth quarter of 2012, and in just 6 months the sub-8-inch has dominated in total shipments.

Its inevitable that Tablets will become the dominant way people get online. Along with Smartphones, Mobile Devices are the future, and like it or not the old home PC looks to be going the way of the old console TV. Time Marches On!

Traffic Generation Strategy

In the continuing Series on the Top 10 Internet Marketing Strategy Essentials today’s topic is Traffic Generation Strategy. Traffic is the life-blood of any web site. Without Traffic you have no business. It’s the old Billboard -In-The-Desert theory. Mobile Marketing Series Part 1

Mobile Marketing Series

In this new Mobile Marketing Series we will be taking a look at Mobile Marketing Strategy that can impact your business. It’s not a question of If you need a Mobile Marketing Strategy, it’s When you are going to start, and the sooner the better.

Mobile DevicesMobile Devices

Mobile Marketing provides a new and different kind of medium for communicating with
consumers: the mobile device. Not just limited to Mobile Phones, the Mobile Revolution, now includes many different devices, like iPhone, Android phones and Tablets.

Mobile devices, which are unique as the person who uses it, offer a different marketing medium in two fundamental ways:

  • It enables consumers to talk and provide information about the kinds of
    messages they want to receive
  • It enables one-on-one communications with consumers, effectively
    targeting
individuals that are most likely to take action

When consumers use their mobile devices to enroll in a service that provides them with
advertising of their choice, they voluntarily give information about themselves and the
messages they want to receive based upon their interests, wants and preferences. By
“opting-in”, these consumers are saying they are inclined to respond to mobile ads
consistent with their interests.

The future is Mobile Marketing on a Local Level, marketing directly to customers in their local area. Mobile users are expanding around the world, and businesses need to get serious about their Mobile Marketing.

Mobile App Revolution

Projected active Mobile App users expected to exceed 1 Billion in 2013. That number is expected to double in the next few years. Currently users will spend over 100 Billion Minutes a month on Android and iOS Mobile Apps alone.

chart_mobile-app-usageMobile App Usage
Google has just announced 25 Billion Downloads on  the Google App Store, Google Play, a milestone that was met last spring by the Apple App Store.

Now Google Play claims to have 675,000 Apps available for download. The Apple App Store claims 700,000 with 250,000 designed specifically for the iPad.

Apple still has the lions share of Paid App downloads, studies suggest that Apple takes in 90% of all dollars paid for App downloads.

Mobile Marketers should pay attention to these stats, as Mobile Apps are the future of Online Marketing. We predict that Every Business will eventually have their own Mobile App, as they become the new Business Card.

Google Nexus One Phone

Look out iPhone, there’s a new phone in town the Google Nexus One! Powered by Andriod, and rumored to be released in January this new phone looks to be a real contender in the Smart Phone market.

Google-Nexus

Google Nexus One

The new Nexus One phone is an unbranded HTC-made carrier-unlocked handset running the Android 2.0 and appears to be slimmer than the HTC myTouch.

Tests have reported a lack of Multi-Touch capability, while the Google Apps tested don’t respond to multitouch, the OS and hardware are presumably Multi-Touch capable.

The Nexus One which currently only runs on the T-Mobil G3 appears to be Faster and Snappier than the Verizon Droid. The phone will only operate on GSM networks, which are widespread outside the US but only T-Mobile and AT&T domestically.
